Demolition & Excavation
Hills District
House demolition, site clearing and excavation from Castle Hill to Kellyville and Dural.
Your Local Hills District Crew
The Hills District is one of Sydney’s busiest knockdown-rebuild areas. Large brick homes from the 1970s and 1980s in Castle Hill, Baulkham Hills and West Pennant Hills are being replaced with new builds. Acreage blocks in Dural, Glenhaven and Kenthurst are being cleared, and the North West Growth Area keeps expanding around Kellyville, Rouse Hill and Box Hill. H&R Demolition & Excavation handles house demolition, pool removal, asbestos removal, site clearing and excavation across the Hills with one licensed, insured crew.
Hills blocks are often large, sloping and set back from the street, with pools, retaining walls and long driveways. We plan the plant, access and sequence around that, and leave the site level and ready for your builder. Every job runs to AS 2601 with a written demolition plan, a site-specific SWMS and tracked waste disposal.

How much does house demolition cost in the Hills District?
House demolition in the Hills District usually costs roughly $18,000 to $28,000 for a single-storey timber or fibro home, $25,000 to $40,000 for a single-storey brick home and $35,000 to $55,000 or more for a two-storey home (indicative 2026 Sydney prices), plus asbestos removal where present. Do I need council approval to demolish a house in the Hills District?
Usually, yes. Most Hills demolitions are approved as complying development through a certifier or by development application to The Hills Shire Council, or Hornsby Shire Council for parts of Dural and West Pennant Hills. Heritage items and some bushfire-prone sites can need a development application or extra conditions.

Demolition in Hills District
Most demolition work in the Hills is residential: full house knockdowns for a rebuild, plus pools, garages, granny flats, tennis courts and outbuildings. Many Hills homes are double brick or brick veneer on generous blocks, so there is a lot of masonry and concrete to break out and recycle. We remove slabs, footings, driveways and retaining walls where your builder needs a clean set-out.
Homes built before 1990 can contain asbestos in eaves, wet areas, older extensions and fencing. Because asbestos licensing is held in-house, any asbestos is identified, removed and cleared as part of the same program, with clearance documentation supplied.
Excavation in Hills District
The Hills sits largely on shale and clay soils, with sandstone in some areas, and many blocks fall steeply from the street. New homes often need a significant site cut, retaining walls, a pool excavation or a basement garage. We cut to the engineer’s levels, carry out detailed excavation for footings and services, and manage spoil classification and cart-away to the correct facility.
On acreage and rural-residential blocks we also clear sites for new dwellings, sheds and driveways, separating green waste and materials for recycling. Doing the demolition and excavation together means one crew takes the block from old house to level building pad.
House Demolition Hills District
A typical Hills District house demolition is a large brick or double-brick home on a sloping block, often with a pool, a long driveway and retaining walls. We remove any asbestos first, demolish the house and outbuildings, break out the slab, footings, driveway and pool, and recycle the concrete and brick. The site is then handed over level, or cut straight away for the new home. See house demolition costs and pool removal.
Site Clearing and Acreage Clearing in the Hills
Rural-residential suburbs such as Dural, Glenhaven, Kenthurst and Annangrove often need land cleared for a new home, shed, arena or driveway. We clear the building envelope and access, grind or remove stumps, separate green waste for mulching, and level the pad. Tree removal usually needs council approval, and bushfire-prone land can bring extra conditions, so we work to your approved plans. See site clearance and land clearing.
Excavation and Retaining for Sloping Blocks
Steep Hills blocks often need deep cuts, retaining walls and drainage before a new home can be built. We excavate to the engineer’s cut-and-fill design, detail-dig footings, and manage spoil classification and cart-away, keeping the batters safe while the retaining walls go in. See our excavation cost guide.
