Safety, Licences
& Compliance

Demolition is high-risk construction work. Here’s how H&R Demolition & Excavation keeps every Sydney site safe, legal and fully documented — and what paperwork you receive at the end.

Licensing

The Licences We Work Under

NSW regulates demolition and asbestos work through SafeWork NSW. These are the licensing and insurance requirements that apply — and how we meet them.

Demolition licensing

In NSW, demolishing or partly demolishing a load-bearing structure generally requires a restricted or unrestricted demolition licence from SafeWork NSW, depending on the structure and method. We work under current SafeWork NSW demolition licensing.

Asbestos removal licensing

A Class A licence covers friable and non-friable asbestos; a Class B licence covers non-friable (bonded) asbestos only. We are licensed for bonded and friable asbestos removal, handled in-house.

Independent clearance

For friable (Class A) work, air monitoring and clearance are carried out by a licensed asbestos assessor. Bonded removal is followed by a clearance inspection before other trades return. You receive the clearance certificate.

Insurance

Every job is covered by public liability insurance. Certificates of currency are supplied to building managers, certifiers and principal contractors on request.

You can check any NSW contractor’s licence through the NSW Government licence check. Our licence details and certificates of currency are supplied with every quote on request.

On Every Job

Planning & Paperwork

Written demolition plan

Prepared in line with Australian Standard AS 2601 — The demolition of structures — setting out the sequence, method and controls.

Safe work method statement (SWMS)

Demolition and excavation deeper than 1.5 m are high-risk construction work in NSW, so every job has a site-specific SWMS.

Asbestos removal control plan

For licensed asbestos removal: the materials, method, enclosure and decontamination arrangements and how waste is handled.

Site-specific risk assessment

Access, adjoining structures, overhead and underground services, traffic and neighbour impacts — assessed before work starts.

Traffic and pedestrian management

Where trucks, footpaths or roads are affected, we put the required controls in place.

Disposal records

Waste is classified, separated and taken to appropriate licensed facilities, with disposal dockets supplied.

On Site

How We Keep Sites Safe

  • Site fencing, signage and exclusion zones in place before machinery moves
  • Water suppression to control dust, especially on tight blocks with close neighbours
  • Work kept within council-permitted hours, with neighbours notified ahead of time
  • Adjoining walls, fences and structures assessed and protected
  • Underground services located through Before You Dig Australia before any excavation
  • Concrete, brick, steel and clean timber separated for recycling
  • Asbestos removed and cleared before the main demolition proceeds
  • Daily site checks, and a clean, level site at handover
At Handover

Documents You Receive

  • A fixed, itemised written quote
  • Demolition plan and SWMS for your certifier or builder
  • Asbestos clearance certificate (where asbestos was removed)
  • Waste and disposal dockets
  • Certificates of currency for insurance, on request

Environmental compliance matters too: waste is classified in line with NSW EPA guidelines, materials are separated for recycling, and asbestos goes only to facilities licensed to accept it.
